Methodology

What does accelerated UV weathering show?
Accelerated UV and moisture cycles are used to compress long-term sun-and-weather exposure into a shorter evaluation window. Applicable finishes may then be reviewed for changes in color, gloss, and surface condition.
Why do gloss and color shift differently?
Gloss reflects surface topology as the binder erodes; color reflects chromophore change in the pigment. A finish can hold color while the surface dulls, or hold gloss while the hue drifts, so both are worth reviewing.
